RECORD OF LODOSS WAR
EPISODE #2
"DEPARTURE OF THE BLAZE"

	Narrator
The war between the gods of light and darkness reached a climax in
which the mother goddess of the earth, Marfa, and the malevolent goddess,
Kardis, battled to the end.
After the fierce battle, the two goddesses perished like a flame flickering
away on the newly created land which was separated by the battle.
This land was later named by the people as the cursed island, "Lodoss."

(episode title)

<Gim goes upstairs to the Temple of Marfa>

	Neese
Are you really going?

	Gim
Yes, I'll surely find her.

	Neese
But, about Lairia...

	Gim
Neese, you're a priestess and also a mother. A parent should never give up
hope of her own child.

	Neese
Gim

	Gim
Hmm. Well, I'm still strong enough to bring back your prodigal daughter or
two.
<He laughs>
Don't worry about it.
<He laughs and leaves>

	Neese
Gim seems to feel responsible for Lairia's disappearance. But it's been seven
years. My child, Lairia...
<Bromd lowers its head to Neese>
Thank you, Bromd. You're trying to soothe me, aren't you?

<Riala is taking a bath in a lake. She hears a sound>
	Riala
Wha'?
<She hears more sounds>
Wha'?
<Riala is chased by goblins, and she screams>

	Pan
Wha'?
<He goes into the forest and then defends the surrounded Riala>
Are you okay?

	Riala
Pan

	Pan
Get away from here.
Damn you. You're not supposed to be out now.
<He strikes at a goblin with the stick but it breaks>
Wha'?
<He fights and kills one of them with a pike. The other goblins run away>

	Eto
That was heroic. You're a good fighter. They were supposed to be night
creatures.

	Pan
Eto
<At Pans cabin>
Sorry for all of this, taking care of me after we've been separated for four
years.

	Eto
Part of my training in the Falis priesthood is healing. This is also within my
practice. <spell> Falis, heal these wounds. <end spell> There, you should feel
better now.

<Townsmen barge in>

	Zact
Pan, so it was you then.

	Pan
Zact

	Zact
If you scare them, they'll go away. Why did you kill it?

	Townsman
Pan, why do you always make things worse?

	Eto
Aren't you the ones who make such a big deal out of things?

	Zact
Eto? Haven't seen you in four years. You don't know the current situation in
this village. He's just like his father, always going against the law of the
village.

	Pan
What?

	Zact
It's true. Your father broke the law and was banished from the holy
knighthood.
Like father, like son

	Pan
What?

	Mayor Filmor
Stop it, Pan.

	Pan
Mayor

	Mayor
Anyway, we have to say thank you.

	Pan
Oh, no. I just...

	Zact
Thank him? Mayor, what's wrong with you. You're the one who decided not
to kill the goblins.

	Mayor
I...I...well...

	Townsman 2
They're gonna come back for revenge.

	Pan
Then I will...

	Zact
Kill them and be the hero?

	Mayor
Stop this. What's the use of fighting here?

	Pan
But...

	Mayor
This concerns the whole village. Don't be rash.

<Goblins decide to revolt, lead by a Chief Goblin, a Marmoan recruit>

SLAYNS CABIN

	Gim
Could you give me a cup of that?

	Slayn
There are so many storms lately.

	Gim
Neese said that the entire island of Lodoss seems to be afraid of something.
<He enters>

	Slayn
No matter how many times you talk to me, I don't intend on going on a trip

	Gim
Your strength will wither if you stay here the whole day alone.

	Slayn
Swords and bows are just too heavy for me.

	Gim
Hmph

	Slayn
My magic is not perfect. I still have so many books to read.

	Gim
Hmph, what can you get from those books?

<A knock on the door>

	Slayn
Another guest? This is the first time I've had more than one visitor.

	Mayor
Master Slayn, I need your advice about the village.

<Deidrit jumps around, admiring the beauty until she hears something>
	Deidrit
Wha'?
<She goes to investigate>
Goblins? In broad daylight?

AT PANS CABIN

	Townsman Image
Your father was a noble swordsman of Vallis?

	Townsman 2 Image
I heard he died because he lost his honor.

<Pan goes to the attic, opens the chest, reminences on the past, looking at the
armor, takes out the sword, and pulls out the sword>
	Pan
Father...

	Eto
Do you need a travelling companion?

	Pan
Wha'?

	Eto
Shall we go then, swordsman?

	Pan
Eto, uh, wait a minute. You finished four years of training to become a priest
of Falis.

	Eto
Don't worry about it. I still lack the experience. I shouldn't be proud of it
without experiencing a battle. That's the bishops saying.
<Pan and Eto attack Goblin sentries. They enter and Eto calls out Pan in the
cave>
Pan
What the...?

	Deid
They went toward the village.

<Eto and Pan come out of the cave to see Deid flying around them>
	Eto/Pan
Wha'?

	Eto
An elf?

<Deid returns back into the forest>

	Pan
It can't be. The goblins went to the village.

<Goblins attack the village and kill many people. Goblins after woman with
child and she screams. Battleaxe comes flying through the air and kills a few>

<Gim lands next to Slayn>
	Gim
Hmm
What a mess

	Slayn
Looks like the goblins are under a spell.

	Gim
Can you undo it?

	Slayn
I'll try. <spell> To the souls who are controlled by the selfish spells, answer
my righteous calls to awakening. To the souls who are controlled by the
selfish spells, answer my righteous calls to awakening. To the souls who are
controlled by the selfish spells, answer my righteous calls to awakening.

	Gim
Are you okay?

	Slayn
Yeah

	Gim
Hmm, your power's gotten stronger since I last saw you.

	Mayor
Riala. Riala

<Chief Goblin attacks Riala, but Pan saves her>

	Riala
Pan

	Pan
I'm the one who killed your kind. So don't involve everyone else.
<To Riala>
Quick, run away.

	Riala
Father

	Mayor
Riala

	Riala
Help Pan.
<Goblin slashes at Pan>
Wha'?
Master Slayn, I ask of you, please help Pan.

	Pan
Damn you
<attacks goblin>

	Slayn
Inexperienced child. But such spirit

	Gim
Hmph

	Slayn
Point your sword upward.
Quickly now, your sword
<spell> To the weapon of justice, may you split the power of darkness.

	Eto
Pan
Oh, wha'...?

[The following townsmen voices their opinions. There are "yeah" 's in
agreement after almost every townsmen's main phrases with the * next to
name]

	Townsman *
It's all Pans fault that everything happened to the village.

	Townsman 2 *
Banish him.

	Townsman 3
Banishing him is too harsh.

	Townsman 4
If he stays here, the same thing will happen again.

	Townsman * *
Right

	Townsman 2 *
It's all his fault.

	Mayor
As you know, something bad is occuring on this island.
If we sit around, we won't know what it is. So, I want Pan to be a
representative of this village, and to find out what's going on.

<Pan burns his house and enters the forest. He sees Eto>
	Pan
Wha'?

	Eto
This time, you're the one who's going on a training trip.

	Gim
I'm worried if you guys are going.

	Pan
Wha'? Huh?

	Gim
I don't know why, but Slayn decided to go too.

<Deid watches them from above>

	Narrator
The hearts which have lived in different worlds are now becoming one light
towards the future. However, they do not know yet about the darkness
which has been lying on the other side of Lodoss.

If you plan to subtitle with this script, please mention that it was
translated by "LODOSS WARRIORS, 1991". Also do not forget that
if you subtitle, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE the subtitled copy. If you do, you
will be in the act of piracy and if you're caught, you'll be in serious
shit. Subtitled copies can be obtained from William Chow at
wchow@questor.wimsey.bc.ca as soon as they subtitles
it. (At least if you get it from Chow, you'll be assured of a
good subtitled copy and then a million different subtitled copies won't
be on the loose.)
Stay tuned for more Lodoss updates and scripts in the future.
